Brown Sugar Buns

A Sunday treat alert incoming… This recipe is something you will be wanting to make all the time during this upcoming winter. A sweet and sugary filling and a soft fluffy bun is everything you need for a sweet-tooth-satisfying treat. Give this bun recipe a try and be aware that you might just fall in love.

Brown Sugar Buns 💛

1,5 tbsp Dry yeast
0,5 l Plant based milk (I used oat)
1 tsp Salt
1,5 tbsp Cardamom
2 dl White sugar
12-14 dl Flour
150 g Softened vegan butter

Brown sugar filling 🧈

100 g Softened vegan butter
1 dl Brown sugar
0,5 dl White sugar
1 tsp Salt

Additional

2 tbsp Soy yoghurt

Making the buns:

  1. Heat the plant based milk to about 42 C. Pour the warmed milk to a large mixing bowl and add in the dry yeast – mix. To the yeast and milk, add the sugar, cardamom and salt and mix. Start adding in the flour 2 dl at the time and make sure you mix the flour to the liquid well before adding more. After adding about 6dl of the flour, add in the softened vegan butter and continue mixing.
  2. Once you’ve added about 10 dl of the flour, a sticky dough should have formed. Move the dough from the bowl to a floured surface. Continue kneading the dough while adding more flour until you’re left with a dough that doesn’t stick to the surface. After that, knead for about 5 more minutes.
  3. Place the dough to a clean mixing bowl and set to a warm place to rise (make sure you place a tea towel on top of the dough so it doesn’t dry too much). Let the dough rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Place the risen dough from the bowl to a floured surface and gently knead for a minute. Divide the dough to 16 equal parts and roll each part to a ball. Place the balls to lined baking sheets with enough space in between the balls. Let the buns rest for another 30 minutes in a warm place under a tea towel.
  5. Make the filling by combining all the filling ingredients in a bowl and set aside to wait. Once the buns have rested and risen, spread a thin layer of soy yoghurt on top.
  6. Make a hole (3/4 way down the bun) to the middle of each bun and place a heaping teaspoon of filling to the hole. Bake the buns at 175 C for about 15-17 minutes until the bottom of each bun is brown.
  7. Let the buns cool for 10 minutes before serving and ENJOY 💛
